Jason Butler, the creative force behind Thee Conductor, continues to work with an impressive selection of musicians for a structured and intentional, yet open & collaborative art project resulting in a curated collection of songs.
From the early age of five-years-old, Butler had a love for spaghetti westerns—largely influenced by his father. As he matured as an artist he found himself pulling inspiration from two main sources: spaghetti western orchestration & the minimalism of Vince Guaraldi, another childhood influence.
His first album titled Cotton Tornado, was released in October 2017 to much acclaim. The album was co-produced and engineered by Justin Douglas (Abram Shook) of King Electric Studios in Austin Texas. This impressive debut is a swirl of orchestration with both amplified and acoustic instrumentation, catchy singing & interesting rhythmic drum patterns. The album features the accompaniment of Bonnie “Prince” Billy, Jana Horn, Kevin Shea (Storm and Stress), Michael Patrick St. Clair (Hard Proof), Vince Delgado, Christopher Cox (Feverbones) & other colorful characters.
Thee Conductor is now finishing up a new album consisting of 8 songs and 2 new videos, one of which features Bonnie “Prince” Billy in human form. Once again the album features songs written by Butler with the accompaniment of Jana Horn, Derek Phelps (Hard Proof), Bonnie “Prince” Billy, Michael Patrick St. Clair, Vince Delgado and many other talented friends.
In support of the new album, Thee Conductor will be performing multiple theatre performances in Texas. This is apart of “The Formal Listening Series”, an event curated by Butler and in association with Margin Walker Presents. Last years event featured headliner Damien Jurado.
Note: The “Face Crinkle” video featuring a marionette version of Bonnie “Prince” Billy achieved "official selections" in multiple film festivals and has won “Best Music Video”.
